Remedial Massage is a type of massage that searches the body for damaged, knotted, tense or stiff muscles then treats them. A Remedial Massage Practitioner will aim to do this by releasing the tight muscles using a variety of techniques such as soft tissue massage, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, joint mobilizations and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF stretching). The massage will focus on specific structures of the body such as muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons to release muscle tension, stimulate blood supply and increase joint range of motion.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Once a month is highly recommended to maintain a healthy muscular system free from pain and injury. However when treating for pain management or injury a more specific treatment schedule may be necessary and will vary based on the nature of the issue.

  • It is recommended to not exercise on the same day after your massage. Letting your body reset with a good sleep before your next training session will allow you to receive maximum benefits from your remedial massage.

  • If it's your first time with Sano Massage we ask that you fill out the New Client form prior to arriving for your appointment. This form should be emailed to you when you make a booking and will allow the therapist to understand your medical history and reasons for having your treatment. At the beginning of your consultation the therapist will have a brief conversation to determine what areas you want worked on and, if necessary, perform musculoskeletal assessment in order to identify specific dysfunction. Your treatment will then take up the remainder of the consultation.

  • We use the appropriate amount of pressure to resolve any issue presented and it is our job to gauge your tolerance to pain and treat accordingly. However, as with any good remedial or sports massage, you may experience some discomfort and we will be in constant communication with you during your treatment to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible.

  • Remedial Massage uses techniques such as trigger point therapy, myofascial release, PNF stretching and deep tissue massage to relieve muscle tightness. Sports massage often implements the same techniques but is more geared towards athletes and their training and competition schedules to keep them performing at their best. For example, faster strokes and PNF stretching may be implemented more before an event to increase circulation and temperature and prevent injury. Slower strokes with lighter pressure and passive stretching are used after an event to help with recovery times from strenuous exercise.

  • We recommend that you wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Tight fitted sportswear is also good. Where required, you will be instructed to remove or adjust items of clothing to allow for appropriate treatment to be performed.
